Grants What grant opportunities are available? There are many grant opportunities available for Piqua City School’s staff. Everyone is encouraged to seek grant opportunities. The following grants are from local sources and should be considered as a way to fund unique projects throughout the school year: Miami County Foundation (focus on benefits to Miami County citizens) Two cycles for grant applications, must be postmarked by last day of February or last day of August; five sets (1 original and 4 copies) of grant applications must be submitted Go to www.miamicountyfoundation.org for information. Piqua Community Foundation (focus on benefits to Piqua citizens) Two cycles for mini-grants ($500 or less) and standards grants, received by March 15 and September 15 each year, plus there is a YEA! (innovative grants up to $1000 for youth enrichment) with a due date of September 15; eight sets (1 original and 7 copies) of grant applications must be submitted Go to www.piquacommunityfoundation.org for information. Piqua Education Foundation (focus on benefits within PCS) One cycle per year, deadline for applications August 31; deadline for project evaluations May 1; grant purpose: to support innovative ideas for teachers and/or students, as start-up funds; applicants should be available for interviews; applications require principal’s signature. Guidelines and application can be viewed here. Miami County Park District (focus on benefits to Miami County students) Grants are due in April. Grants generally support the cost of transportation to Miami County Park District educational activities as well presenter expenses. Go to www.miamicountyparks.com for information. If you are thinking of submitting a grant application to one of these foundations, please review the requirements, the format or forms, the deadlines, what these foundations do/do not fund, your reporting obligations, etc., BEFORE you put the time into an application. Planning is important – remember that grant approval may take up to two months before applicants know if the grant is approved and at what dollar amount. If you have questions about the potential for a grant application, you might call the executive director well in advance of the deadline for advice on the grant’s potential “fit” with that foundation. Where do I get 501(C) or IRS/Tax information that is sometime required when requesting grant funds? All of these documents can be obtained by contacting the treasurer’s department.
